Youth Sector in East Jerusalem


The Palestinian Bureau of Statistics indicates that the percentage of the Palestinian population under the age of 15 is 41.9%, the percentage of population under the age of 25 is 63%, and that under 30 is 71%. Hence the importance of the Youth sector and its integration in the development and planning of all sectors–whether economic, educational, development or health– is central to this program.

Also, it is important to focus on the protection of the Youth sector from the social and moral repercussions that result from the Israeli occupation. The limited numbers of organizations that currently deal with the youth in Jerusalem and the lack of facilities, infrastructure, equipment and services exacerbate this sector's problems. These are mainly problems related to violence at home or school, economic problems resulting from unemployment, behavioral problems related to drug addiction and general problems related to lack of awareness.
