Faisal Al Husseini The Prince of Jerusalem Library/Silwan Sports Club

Among the various interests of Silwan Sports Club, and taking into consideration that culture and education are important weapons for the Palestinians, and in an attempt to open the way before Palestinian youth to reach knowledge and fight ignorance and the various social vices, the club planned in the beginning of 2004 to activate the idea of a library. The club owned a large quantity of books that was considered as the hard core for the establishment of a comprehensive library, but they were neglected. With funding from FHF, the club opened its library on 23/9/2004 named “ Library of Faisal Al Husseini, the Prince of Jerusalem” in a tribute to this personality that gave a lot to Jerusalem, and it was the duty of everyone to carry on and continue his mission.

Approximately 500 books and encyclopaedias were purchased during the first phase of establishing the library, in addition to a plan to rehabilitate more than 300 books that existed previously in the club.

The books are diversified and focus on all literary, social, national, cultural, and educational subjects. A special corner was designated for children and was provided with books towards raising the capabilities of children in Silwan and increasing their scientific, cultural, and literary knowledge.

Plans were set up to activate the use of the library and a librarian was hired in order to allow the residents of the village to make the best use of this facility.
