Biddo Library, The library of the
Prince of Jerusalem
Biddo is a central village in the northwest of Jerusalem,
with a population of 15,000. Biddo library was established in the year
2001 by a group of locals with the cooperation of the local counsel
to encourage and reinforce reading habits among children and youth.
FHF developed the Biddo village library in 2004, as part of the library
development program in East Jerusalem.. The Biddo library project aims
to:
- Increase readership and library membership
- Increase the number of books
- Encourage students and children to read and conduct research
- Provide an educational environment via workshops and courses
The number of participants in the library reached one hundred and
seventy eight both males and females. From the villages of northwest
Jerusalem
Library’s program
- Disseminate knowledge and raise awareness.
- Support underprivileged students by providing reference books unaffordable
for them.
- Organize enhancement lessons and courses in curriculum subject matters
for students with low marks, such as mathematics and science courses,
as well as others.
- Access to internet
- Summer camps
The library’s needs:
- enriching the library with more useful books
- Creating a computer laboratory
- TV and VCR set, educational programs tapes and CDs, projector, microfilm,
microfiche.
