create visions to become excellent schools. Our foundation's role in this process is to facilitate the conditions for each school to fulfill its vision.

Our foundation's program is a pioneer in Jerusalem in facilitating the implementation of educational visions rather than concentrating solely on the improvement of schools' infrastructure, facilities and educational resources despite their big importance in reaching excellent schools.

The foundation is working on improving them on three main levels:

Infrastructure: The foundation seeks to enhance the infrastructure (classrooms and other educational facilities) creating a suitable environment for education.

Institutional building: The foundation is working on developing leadership skills of the administration, in addition to developing the educational skills of the teachers.

Implementing educational programs: The foundation has introduced different educational programs that aim at enhancing the educational level of students. These programs consist of:

  • Introduction of computers and technological programs.
  • Activation of school libraries and encouraging reading and research.
  • Introduction of extra curricular activities such as music and physical education and art.
  • Introduction of a program to strengthen students with low educational standings.
  • Introduction of a program to diagnose and treat learning difficulties.
  • Introduction of a program for innovative students.

Encouraging excellent and innovative students program:

This program has been designed for the academic year of 2002-2003 in an attempt to encourage and appreciate the efforts of students with high academic standings.

they are awarded the "Faisal Husseini Certificate for excellent students", in addition to symbolic prize which carried several meanings the foundation seeks to stress upon, especially under the current circumstances of closure and isolation of the city of Jerusalem. The prize comprised of a hand made backpack made by Palestinian craftsmen from Nablus, ornamented with Palestinian embroidery from Ramallah. In addition, the bag had a map of Palestine which was published by the Arabs Studies Society in Jerusalem. Despite the siege imposed on the city, the students received their prizes at the beginning of the academic year.

A program for innovative students has been designed. This program is part of a larger program which includes qualifying teachers who will follow up on the students' program in the fields of literature, theatre, drawing, and science and computer technology. This year's program has targeted students of seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

Small and urgent support:

The Education sector suffers mainly from a lack of facilities which fails to meet the continuously growing number of students. The buildings used for schools are mostly old rented houses lacking essential educational facilities such as appropriate classrooms, playing grounds, laboratories, physical education facilities and other basic educational resources. The foundation developed a program to serve the urgent needs of schools.
